More than 50 percent of the fish caught in Madeira is black scabbardfish. Activity practiced by fishermen from Câmara de Lobos, as said by Celso Bettencourt, president of the Parish Council of Câmara de Lobos at the launch ceremony of the book ‘Tesouro do Mar Profundo’, written by Arteleia and presented today in the bay of Câmara de Lobos, with the presence of the president of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque.
At the event, which was also attended by the Mayor, Sónia Pereira, Celso Bettencourt explained that the book, 70 percent financed, will be remembered for the future, telling the story of Câmara de Lobos. Sónia Silva Franco, from Arteleia, for her part, said that the book does not exactly teach how to fish but reveals the extraordinary capacity of someone who, with determination, threw himself into the sea to retrieve the black scabbardfish from the bottom of the sea, even in the cruelest of circumstances.
