It will soon be built in the old building of the “Madeira Sun” embroidery factory on Rua dos Netos nº77, next to the Hotel Orquídea, a “Boutique Hotel” with 14 suites.
The businessman is an emigrant, former mayor of Walvis Bay, Namibia, who has owned the Hotel Orquídea for around two decades.

This historic building was the medical practice specializing in children’s and women’s health for two sisters, who were not only the first women to finish high school in 1898, but also the first to graduate in Medicine in Portugal. Palmira was born on November 24, 1879 on Rua das Mercês and Henriqueta was born a year later in a house on Rua dos Ferreiros. The two sisters were the first women to graduate from the Medical-Surgical School throughout its 73 years of existence, out of a total of around 250 doctors.

They set up offices in this towered house at 77 Rua dos Netos, which ends that street on the east side, overlooking Ponte Nova, where in 1946 the embroidery company Madeira Sun was set up.
Now this location will soon house another city hotel. The project is approved by the CMF, from what we know.
