The ADN Party – National Democratic Alternative today alerted health and regional inspection authorities to the existence of eggs for sale in commercial areas in Madeira, but which are “unfit for consumption”.
“It appears that there are eggs from a prestigious regional company for sale, but they are unfit for consumption, despite being within their expiration date, and the true condition of the eggs is often not visible to the ‘naked eye’ due to the pamphlet of the producing company that covers them inside the packaging wrapped in plastic”, denounces DNA, asking for “urgent and effective intervention, whether in the commercial areas that package and sell this important food product, in transport companies or even in the producing entity itself” .
In a statement sent to newsrooms, the ADN’s regional coordinator also says he has received “hundreds of testimonies from Madeirans across the island who complain about the same problem.”
“When consuming spoiled eggs, anyone can run the risk of foodborne infection, especially due to contamination by salmonella, a bacteria present in the eggshell. It can cause uncomfortable symptoms and a lot of discomfort, in addition to vomiting, headaches and stomach pains, and chills “, warns Miguel Pita cited in the same note.
The ADN Party adds that “there are many formalized complaints not only at the production company, but also at sales outlets throughout RAM”.
