Showers and strong winds expected for this Thursday 1

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) predicts that this Thursday, March 13, the sky will be very cloudy, with showers, more frequent and intense on the northern slopes and in the highlands, and there may be snow at the highest points of Madeira Island.  

The wind will blow strong (35 to 45 km/h) from the west-northwest, with gusts of up to 90 km/h, until mid-afternoon, blowing strong (45 to 55 km/h) in high areas, with gusts of up to 120 km/h, until mid-afternoon.  

It also predicts a drop in temperature, especially the maximum. With this reaching 19ºC in Madeira and 18ºC in Porto Santo. The minimum temperature could reach 14 and 13ºC, respectively. 

In Funchal the wind will blow moderate to strong (30 to 45 km/h) from the west, sometimes with gusts of up to 70 km/h, becoming generally weak (less than 20 km/h) from mid-afternoon. 

Regarding the state of the sea, and as already reported by DIÁRIO, the north and south coast of Madeira, as well as Porto Santo, are under a yellow warning for rough seas between midnight and 3 pm today. 

On the north coast the waves will be from the northwest with 5 to 6 meters and on the south coast from the west-southwest with 4 to 5 meters.
