Health workers call strike for December 6

This post was originally published on this site

Health workers will go on strike on December 6th to demand the opening of negotiation processes, the hiring of more workers and professional development, according to the National Federation of Trade Unions of Public and Social Workers.

According to the strike notice, the strike by workers working in health establishments provided by the Social Security Institute (ISS) or the National Health Service (SNS) will take place between midnight and midnight on December 6th, with minimum services being guaranteed.

Minimum services will be guaranteed in services that operate uninterruptedly 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Chemotherapy and hemodialysis treatments already started will also be guaranteed.

Specifically, health workers demand the opening of negotiation processes, better working conditions, dignity and appreciation of careers, the hiring of more employees for the sector’s various careers and in defense of the SUS.

In a statement published on the Federation’s website, it is said that the workers decided to go ahead with the strike due to the lack of responses to the demands from the supervisory authority, “which reveals a lack of political will to resolve serious labor matters”.

“Health workers are tired of waiting for their demands to be resolved. Year after year, promises of solutions follow one after the other and the workers’ problems increase and worsen, but they are never resolved,” the note states.

On November 8, health workers protested in front of the Ministry of Health to demand that their careers be valued and that workers be hired for all health sectors.

At the time, they submitted a request for a meeting with the Ministry of Health, accompanied by a proposal of demands.
