Albuquerque: 12% Water Bill Increase – Irrelvelant

This post was originally published on this site

Águas e Residuos da Madeira ARM/Regional Government intends to increase the price of water by 12%.

Annoyed at the indignation of the region’s mayors, Miguel Albuquerque reacted by saying that it was an insignificant increase because it represented only three cents for each cubic meter of water. This may be the case, but it still represents a 12% increase.

This increase, considering (data from the Annual Report and Accounts of the ARM for the year 2023) that ARM supplies 55.8 million cubic metres of water, representing an increase in revenue of 1.7 million euros. An amount that will ultimately be paid for by the Madeirans.

This amount does not include additional revenue from rubbish collection or irrigation water charges. As these prices have also increased.

Three cents or no three cents, some people and families are already struggling to pay utility bills without having further burdens placed on their limited financial resources.
