Traffic changes in Santo da Serra cause confusion for motorists

The first day of the change in the direction of vehicle traffic on the main street in the parish of Santo António da Serra, in Santa Cruz, is causing some confusion for drivers. 

As already reported this Friday by DIÁRIO, from today onwards, car traffic on Rua Dr.ª Filomena Mina will only go in one direction, from the Health Center to the gas station. Circulation in the opposite direction will have to be done via Estrada Dr. João de Gouveia. However, this Saturday, several drivers are not respecting the change, driving the wrong way. 

As reported to DIÁRIO, the population fears that an accident will occur due to ignorance of the change.

Some cyclists were also surprised this morning by vehicles going the wrong way. 

To DIÁRIO, the president of the Parish Council of Santo António da Serra clarifies that the “police are aware of the situation”. 

“It is natural that, with any change, on the first day there will be some distraction from a driver, but the police are aware of the situation and will certainly do their job”, adding that the PSP is “aware and was asked by the municipality to police to pay attention in the first few days.” 

It is important to mention that this change caused some uproar, and a petition was created to show displeasure. 

This morning, a demonstration took place in the center of the parish.
