Funchal City Council to reduce nightlife opening hours

This post was originally published on this site

The Executive of Funchal City Council presented its proposal for a Municipal Regulation on Opening Hours of Establishments and Noisy Activities this Tuesday afternoon, which contains significant changes in relation to the one currently in force, which dates back to 2015.

Cristina Pedra, the president says that the Funchal council could not continue to be indifferent to the “around 400 noise complaints received in around three and a half years”, nor to the “more than 1,000 occurrences caused by excessive noise”, received on average every year by the PSP, roughly in the last three years – unofficial numbers – in addition to “many other hearings we had here”, at city hall.

And it is within these assumptions, and with this certainty that “a balance is needed between the right to rest and the right to economic activity”, that the highlighted document was produced.

It will be taken to the council meeting on Thursday, then enter a 30-day period of public discussion, return to the local authority to introduce changes, if applicable, and then receive final approval in the Municipal Assembly.

The document is very detailed, establishing general regulations and then three specific areas of location, namely the Old Town, the Historic Center and Rua das Fontes and Calçada de São Lourenço, with associated differentiations, also derived from the typology of the businesses in question. and the days of the week.

Even stricter rules for spaces located in residential buildings, with this general certainty, that when in force, to be approved in this way, that, with the exception of nightclubs duly licensed for the purpose, which continues with a license until six o’clock in the morning In the morning, no other establishment, at the limit, will be able to close after two o’clock in the morning, but in essence the majority will be open until 11 pm / 12 am, and there are still cases where they will have to close at 10 pm.

Note also for terraces: their deadline will always be 30 minutes before the establishments close.
