New Director of Madeira and Porto Santo Airports

Rui Coutinho, who this Tuesday resigned from the position of president of SATA’s administration, is expected to be the next director of Madeira and Porto Santo airports.

As reported by NewsAvia, the resignation is related to the change of direction in three places of direction at national airports.

Appointed president of SATA in June 2024, Rui Coutinho has several years of experience in the aviation and transport sector, having been regional director of Air and Maritime Transport and regional director of Mobility of the Autonomous Region of the Azores.

He was head of the Airport Operations Department of Ponta Delgada Airport, director of Santa Maria Airport and head of the Planning, Management and Control Division of the Azores Airports Directorate, under the management of ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, having coordinated the areas of planning and control of management, investments, marketing, licensing, environment and information systems.

This Tuesday, after the announcement of the resignation, the Government of the Azores expressed to Rui Coutinho its “recognition for the services provided”, as well as the “contribution” to the “strengthening of stability” of the SATA group.

Edgar Carvalho heads to the Algarve

In turn, the director of Cristiano Ronaldo Airport, Edgar Carvalho, should occupy the same position, but at Gago Coutinho Airport, in Faro, after having expressed interest in leaving Madeira for “family reasons”.

The current director of the Algarve airport, José Luís Alves, is expected to take over the direction of the Azores Airports.

The concessionaire ANA -Aeroportos de Portugal is expected to announce the change soon.
