The Santo da Serra Carnaval initially scheduled for March 9th, and rescheduled for March 16th, will now not take place. Similarly, the ‘Burial of the Bone’ parade, scheduled for next Sunday, March 16th in Camacha has been called off.
“This difficult decision is due to the yellow warning of heavy rains, issued by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) for this date”, states a press release from the Parish Council, which adds: “We know how much these events are anticipated and we recognize the impact of this decision. However, we understand that everyone’s safety must always be the priority, which is why this decision, although difficult, was made in a responsible and considered manner.”
Such a shame that all the effort that will have gone into the preparations of these events has been spoiled by the weather.
