The Madeira Force Coalition expressed its indignation at the number of people who are recorded as ‘problematic discharge cases.’ The figures were released today by the clinical director of SESARAM.
Currently, SESARAM has 321 people who cannot be discharged occupying beds in the adult wards. Of these, 251 are in the Dr. Nélio Mendonça and Marmeleiros hospitals.
In a statement, Liana Reis for the Madeira Force Coalition said:
“There are 321 people who occupy about 40% of the region’s available hospital beds. How can the Social Democratic Government walk with its head held high? There are 321 people in need of basic care such as hygiene and food and who are unable to return home. Gentlemen, it is time to put an end to this inhumane situation.”
In her opinion, “there is a lack of social support structures for our population and the current government chooses to spend millions on useless works such as golf courses, parties at Quinta Vigia, ridiculous gifts such as the mugs offered by SESARAM, as part of the celebrations of World Health Day, and those who need support, are ‘abandoned’ in the corridors of our inpatient service.”.
The Madeira Force Coalition “urgently defends the expansion of public homes in the Region, such as the Lar de Santa Isabel in Monte, as well as the rehabilitation of public infrastructures such as the various schools that are closed, in order to respond to the crisis.”
